Most Probable Number (MPN) tests using Tryptic Soy Broth (TSB) are used to estimate the total aerobic bacteria count of a sample. MPN tests using TSB are commonly used in sterility testing for products that are not sterile and for checking the amount of bacteria in food and water. MPN testing is especially useful when the sample has particles that make other counting methods difficult. Tryptic Soy Broth is also widely used in laboratories for cultivating microorganisms It is a general-purpose liquid medium that supports the growth of many types of bacteria and fungi. It is non-selective and allows a wide variety of microorganisms to grow, including fastidious bacteria (those with special growth requirements), such as Streptococcus, Neisseria, Listeria, Haemophilus, Vibrio, Corynebacterium, and Brucella as well as common bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli and Yeasts and molds.
